In this case, I really think the book's equation for chi-squared is much easier to follow [ (ƒo - ƒe)^2 ] / fe. They list frequencies with subscripts and frankly it looks just like variance equations and I saw the relationship right away.

I wrote the last comment and it was a bit brash because I felt attacked by the remark 2 comments prior... I am a whisperer. I would like to apologize for disrupting the education of another. I think about 70% of my whispering is class related...I would be lost during lecture without help from my friends...I will speak quieter in the future...I will eliminate the other 30% of my whispering....I hope this compromise works...

Would appreciate it if classmates recognized the existence of different learning styles and that sometimes whispering to a peer clarifies the lesson Lada is teaching. (whispering about non-class related topics should be stopped) Additionally, this feedback tool is ridiculous in that it furthers the passive aggressive tendencies that already permeates SI. Similarly, I do not like lecture tools in that as the comment from 3/11 suggests, it makes people uncomfortable raising their hands and compels them to ask all questions through technology...why do we even have class when it could just be done online as I am not to ask my friends for help or raise my hand to ask the teacher a question?

I appreciate the opportunity for extra credit, although at first thought that it was unfair that it might be due during class, i.e. those that don't quite get things are going to have a difficult time trying to follow lecture AND work on a disparate problem. I would find it helpful to have the lecture the night before, to at least be prepared for what coming. When I see things for the first time at 8:40 in the morning, and they don't always look familiar from the book, I get really confused. By seeing the lecture slides beforehand, I get a chance to get a sense of what I don't get, formulate questions and think about what I dont get before I ask. It's often a problem of "I don't even know what questions to ask" in the morning because it's overwhelming.
